On a smoggy day like today in Vancouver, let's talk about air quality. We spend a lot of time indoors in Canada, but did you know indoor pollutants can be even more toxic than whatever is going on outside? Most of the reason for this is inadequate ventilation of enclosed spaces. There are all kinds of things in our homes or offices that emit chemicals such as volatile organic compounds, brominated flame retardants, pesticides, formaldehyde, mold spores, and bacteria. And unfortunately, air purifying systems do not reduce levels of all indoor air pollutants and some can even aggravate the issue.
Thankfully, there are quite a few beautiful indoor plants that work amazing at taking care of this issue for us. How well do they work? When displaced Hurricane Katrina victims had to live temporarily in travel trailers that were found to have toxic levels of carcinogenic formaldehyde in them, a plant/air filter reduced the levels from 0.18ppm to 0.03ppm! That's significant! Here are the top 10 houseplant air cleaners based on an assessment of 50 different plants. Thank you nature!! https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3230460/
