The power of natural medicine.
Overprescription of antibiotics has led to many new and dangerous antibiotic-resistant bugs. An example of one of these is methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). MRSA is considered a serious threat by the CDC, accounting for over 11,000 associated deaths each year. In the USA, it imposes an annual burden of $1.4-13.8 billion on society. The article link below reviews research around tea tree essential oil in fighting these infections. One in vitro study found that “all strains of MRSA and MSSA were eradicated within 1 hour following exposure to a 5% tea tree oil solution”. Amazing! While this is just one example, there are so many more powerful natural options available to use against bacteria, viruses, fungi, or yeast and I see them working in my practice all the time. I'm not saying this is the answer to antibiotic-resistance, but naturopathic medicine can certainly be used as a first line therapeutic resource to hopefully decrease the necessity of using antibiotics as regularly. http://ndnr.com/bota…/tea-tree-oil-a-novel-approach-to-mrsa/
